An Invitation to participate:
*Radical love in Action And Satish Kumar Foundations: A new Schumacher Movement.*
Over the past 4 months a breadth of activities have been carried out towards the development of a new charity that encompasses the Schumacher Worldwide Network and the College itself. A space where Schumacher and Satish’s inspired projects meet as peers, find a space for mutual support and furthering inquiry; for collective recognition and cross pollination, and ultimately, to create a movement that can serve as a source of inspiration, action and influence in a world that needs alternative visions.
The values and principles of decentralisation, reparation, decoloniality, complexity and belonging are becoming central to the ways we speak about the foundations and its intentions and the ethos to which we aspire.
A group of around 20 people close to Satish and Schumacher College in the UK gathered in Sharpham (Totnes) in April 2024 to explore what a new foundation with these values could look like, and which would also serve the College’s transition to independence. Since then, there’s been significant advances and concrete outcomes of the kinds of activities the foundation could do. Here are some of the activities that are beginning to take form:
Different formats of Murmuration gatherings- a series of in person gatherings in different regions of the world- A weekend gathering being organised in Taiwan/ China 2024 during Satish’s visit and also an evening gathering in Brazil during the visit of Schumacher fellows and teachers to Sao Paulo.
The Schumacher Magazine, is a communication artefact developed by students, is in the process of launching it´s second issue.
The Alumni Network, a platform where we can connect with other projects, is becoming a space to share and learn together. A Co-budget project is developing as a nuance strand of the network to think differently about resources and supporting each other.
The Research in Action Community is finding ways to continue and to expand its support to practitioners and researchers.
The idea of developing a RLiA Barefoot Certificates is taking form in the UK , Spain and China recognising and connecting what already exists around the world, prototyping bio regional adapted forms of learning.
We are beginning to meet monthly in General Assemblies, a space for open participation where we have the opportunity to practise an ethos, strengthen communication across initiatives, and grow a sense of movement and action.
This is an invitation for you to come and learn about what’s happening and get involved as well as to prepare the ground so that when together in Brazil you can share your project, your practice to continue developing this organism together.
We have thought of two first moments for us to meet:
27th of Aug at 1pm BR time online: update on the global movements - some people involved in leading this global movement will share what has been gaining form, different threads of work and next steps being explored.

Escola Schumacher Brasil
