Alan Wong, CTO of EnSilica, a British semiconductor company specializing in custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for communications and other technologically demanding markets, will deliver the talk “Custom Chips Drive the Space Race in Satellite Communications (SATCOM)”.

The presentation explores circuit- and system-level challenges related to radio frequency (RF), millimeter-wave (mmWave), and high-speed digital semiconductors, which are essential to achieving broadband link budgets in modern space communications. It will also cover architectures and implementations designed for both dedicated user terminals and direct-to-device (D2D) satellite connectivity.

The talk will be delivered in English.

About the speaker:

Alan joined EnSilica in 2016 and has more than 28 years of experience in semiconductor development. He began his career in technical roles at Tokyo Electron and Sony Semiconductor, before serving as IC Design Director at Frontier Microsystems and Toumaz Ltd, where he led the development and delivery of system-on-chip (SoC) products for the medical and consumer markets.

A Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), and a Senior Member of the IEEE, Alan has also served on the Technical Program Committee (TPC) of the ISSCC conference and the IEEE 802.15 standards committee. He holds a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree from the University of Oxford.
