Seminars will be online and open to anyone interested in participating. In each session we will have a theme and speakers from UK and Brazil, who will open the activities with two presentations and then we will have discussions with invited debaters and other participants. The focus is to present to each other and disscuss: our specialized knowledge about different realities, reflections on them, on research demands and potential for cooperation between Brazil and UK (either for professors, postgraduates and undergraduates, as well as for the public and the private sector).
SESSION 1 - Ergonomics for Engineers and Acessibility
Msc. Kimberley Harding will be talking about inclusive design and ergonomics for engineers. How we can identify and good design, what ergonomics and anthropometrics are and how we can holistically design for all (and its importance). I anticipate looking into why we need ergonomics and inclusive design, the difference between inclusive design and accessible design, and what more can be done to understand human centred systems design. Showcase UK exemples and why we don't design for the 50th percentile person.
Prof. Silvia Miranda will be presenting Brazilian experience when it comes to the study of barriers for social inclusion of people with disabilities and/or reduced mobility in an accessible city, the approach encompasses current legislation and technical standards; social inclusion in public transportation; microaccessibility and macroaccessibility; inclusive mobility and universal accessibility; and mapping of an accessible city.
This session will be mainly in English, but presenters will have their slides also in Portugues and mediators will be available to translate questions and answers if necessary.

I am a PhD student at the University of Birmingham (UK). My PhD is in inclusive design for passenger experience, looking at how the railway infrastructure can be better designed for people who are neurodiverse. I have been in the railway industry for over 10 years, working with HS2, London Underground and Transport for London to name a few. I have a bachelor's degree in design and manufacture engineering from the university of Nottingham, and a master's degree in railway systems engineering and integration from the university of Birmingham. My enthusiasm for railways started when I was eight, after shadowing my dad at work in London Underground
