An urgent topic

Why, in the process of building knowledge, is it widely claimed that Science and Faith are antagonistic to one another? Does such belief reflect people’s reality and the way they live? What message can Science and Religion offer in order to overcome the various types of social violence we see, whether in our everyday lives or in the great conflicts between peoples and nations?

The Legion of Good Will’s Spirit and Science World Forum invites you to participate in a debate about the relationship between Science and Faith and to seek answers and the paths that lead to understanding and Peace.

-     Dr. Fatima Machado, collaborating professor on the Graduate Program in Social Psychology at the Institute of Psychology ofthe University of São Paulo (Brazil) and co-leader and scientific director of InterPsi — Psychosocial Studies Laboratory “Belief, Subjectivity,  Culture & Health.”
Topic: Belief, Spirituality, and Religiousness under scientific analysis.

 

-     João Carlos de Carvalho, minister-preacher of the Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit.
Topic: “Science and Faith on the path to equilibrium” (Paiva Netto)

 

 October 20^th

-    Dr. Harold Koenig, a prize-winning psychiatrist, professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and associate professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, in North Carolina (USA). He is one of the most renowned researchers into the relationship between spirituality and health.

-    Ìyá KéKeré do Gantois, Mother Ângela Maria Ferreira, a representative of Terreiro de Gantois, orIlê Iaomim Axé Iamassê, located in Salvador (Brazil).

-     Dr. Humberto Schubert Coelho, adjunct professor of the Department of Philosophy of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Brazil) and coordinator of History and Philosophy of the Research Center in Spirituality and Health (NUPES).
